Reporting to the Superintendent but responsible for overseeing and inspecting the paving crew in all phases of the project.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • Interpret and implement construction plans.
  • Read, understand, interpret and enforce safety policies and practices.
  • Assist the Superintendent with scheduling the projects in logical steps based upon employee and equipment availability and completion dates.
  • Coordinate the requisition of supplies and material with the Superintendent.
  • Confer with managers, sub-contractors, and Project Managers on a daily basis or as needed.
  • Must be willing to work the hours needed to complete projects in a timely manner while meeting quality standards.
  • Manage paving crew to ensure that Werner Construction's high quality standards are consistently met.

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Must have 5 years of experience with mainline concrete paving equipment.
  • Must have 5 years of experience in concrete base work.
  • Experience in the set-up, operation and tear-down of Gomaco paving equipment is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • The ability to read, understand and implement construction drawing is required.
  • Must possess excellent organizational, administrative, and communication skills.
  • This position requires a self-starter who is highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to read and understand project plans.
  • Must be able to effectively manage employees and work with other Management staff.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel is recommended.  
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is highly desirable.

Asphalt Paving Superintendent

This position is responsible for coordinating and directing activities of their assigned asphalt crew to insure that goals and objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frames and financial parameters.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to;

  • Supervise and coordinate asphalt plant and paving operations related to his/her crew.
  • Insure that quality control is developed and maintained.
  • Monitors and facilitates labor and equipment resources based on project.
  • Read and interpret plans for purposes of construction compliance.
  • Communicate with State, Federal and local Project Managers to ensure project success.
  • Confer with managers, sub-contractors, and Project Managers on a daily basis or as needed.
  • Improve the knowledge, skills and capabilities of the crew members.
